Though our company is a provider for physical protection; in the 21st century no company can afford not to deal with their electronic security with anything less than one hundred percent vigilance, and the principals between the two are largely the same.
For example, just this past week, we ourselves were the intended victims of an identity theft fraud scheme that, if it were successful, would have created enormous problems for our company, and more importantly our employees. Parties unknown created a dummy email address impersonating the owner of the company and contacted our office manager, asking for the personal information of every employee of the company. The fraud attempt was discovered due to a combination of security protocols in place and familiarity with speaking habits between office personnel that aroused suspicion. This kind of fraud attempt happens every day and illustrates how constant perseverance must be maintained; even the smallest lapse can result in extreme consequences, especially when handling such sensitive information as personnel files or company information.
